- Category:Dutch municipal elections 2022 in Rotterdam by Donald Trung - this one is a bit of an odd one out, because it was started by Donald Trung, but was initially named "Dutch municipal elections 2022 in Rotterdam". It was then renamed "Dutch municipal elections 2022 in Rotterdam by Donald Trung" by Mdd.
I'd like to discuss user categories created by someone else, against the wishes of the person they represent. Current Commons policy works under the assumption that user categories are created by the same person they represent, so there's usually no problem to have them modified or deleted. These categories were not created by Donald Trung however, and their creation wasn't discussed with him beforehand. This isn't inherently a problem, but when he has let it know he's not happy with these categories and doesn't want them, it starts being one - to what extent does he have the right to (re)move files in these categories and have these categories deleted when there's a second person involved? Commons policy isn't clear on this.
I think people should have ownership over their own user space, provided it complies with established Commons policy, and Commons policy could be a bit more clear on this. I also think it's best if other people generally stay out of it unless it's for things like uncontroversial maintenance edits. Once larger, more structural changes get involved (such as making new categories), permission should be obtained first. ReneeWrites (talk) 15:40, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete all — I always support the ownership of user space, but not user-generated content, and permission should be sought from the user before creating user categories of them by someone else. I have created several user categories of mine to track record of my own works (like Category:Photographs by Sbb1413), and I always use {{User category}} to put such categories under Category:User categories (flat list). But the problem is that {{User category}} does not have an {{Mbox}} that would warn other users that it is a user category. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs • uploads) 17:03, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete unless the user (Donald Trung) wants to keep them.
∞∞ Enhancing999 (talk) 17:03, 1 December 2024 (UTC)- @Enhancing999: I asked him about it yesterday on his talk page. He didn't get a talk page notification for the above categories because he didn't create them, only the creator gets notified of that. That was not an oversight on my part, I already have his thoughts on the matter and I didn't want to bother him with it further. ReneeWrites (talk) 20:35, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: these should not exist unless Donald Trung wants them to, bu some look like they need their files upmerged to topical categories before these are deleted. E.g. presumably everything in Category:Photographs in Delfshaven in 2023 by Donald Trung belongs in Category:2023 in Delfshaven or one of its subcats. - Jmabel ! talk 01:11, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
